Organic Bolivian Café de Tarija Coffee
Stretching high into the Andes lies a tropical paradise of coffee. 9th Street Coffee is proud to work with and support small family operated farms all over the world. In Yungas Bolivia, coffee is only grown on small family-owned farms situated on the slopes of the Andes mountains. The Tarija family has been growing high quality Arabica coffee beans since 1955 and is considered the best in the region. The altitude ranges from 1,200 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The high altitude contributes to the clean distinctive flavor profile of the coffee. We only source the highest quality Arabica beans from Tarija , ensuring the superior nuanced flavors and lower acidity in every cup.
Café de Tarija coffee is well-balanced, flavorful and offers a clean finish. It exhibits a medium body with notes of chocolate, taffy, almonds, malt and a slight combination of fruity and floral undertones. The aroma of Café de Tarija coffee is often described as aromatic and enticing, with hints of floral notes.
Coffee from the Tarija family farm is processed using the traditional method of full washed processing. The processing method can influence the final taste and aroma of the coffee. Washed processing is generally lower in acidity and promotes more of the chocolate and almond notes.
The Tarija family as with 9th Street and the Jasani family farms adhere to the strictest organic and sustainable farming practices. The region's diverse ecosystem allows for shade-grown coffee as well as full sun cultivation, contributing to environmental conservation and biodiversity. The combination of high altitude, ample rainfall, and a variety of micro-climates in Yungas contributes to the unique terroir of the coffee. This gives Café de Tarija coffee a distinct character compared to beans grown in other regions.
Tasting Notes: Rich chocolate w/ hints of almonds and a slight floral clean finish
